11 May 2012. At an event at the University of Nebraska College of Law, co-sponsored by University of Vienna and ESPI, the ESPI director made a presentation on the source system of international law as relevant for space law.

On 20 April, 2012 the University of Nebraska College of Law invited to its 6th Annual Space Law Conference, which this year was co-sponsored by University of Vienna and ESPI. The keynote was made by Ambassador, Dr. Peter Jankowitsch (member of the ESPI Advisory Council) under the title: ‘’The development of international space law, in particular in its infant stages, and the role of customary and soft law’’. This presentation gave a fascinating insight into how the 5 space treaties were created, drew lines up to the present and looked at what the future might bring in this domain. The keynote was followed by a number of very well received presentations, including one by Professor, Dr Irmgaard Marboe of University of Vienna, ‘’Compliance or non-compliance with soft-law instruments: a real choice for space operators?", and one by ESPI director Peter Hulsroj, "General principles of law versus soft law in the space domain".
