16 October 2007. ESPI was selected for the presentation of a space law book edited by Christian Brünner and colleagues from the University of Graz.
During the past years, the chair in public law at the University of Graz built up a great reputation in the field of space law. Professor Christian Brünner has been the driving force for establishing space law as a discipline there. He not only introduced research and training in this field but also brought the National Contact Point for the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL, where he is also a member in the board) to his institute.
As a summary of these developments, he assembled in late 2005 the Austrian community in the field of space law to prepare this volume in German entitled “Raumfahrt und Recht. Faszination Weltraum, Regeln zwischen Himmel und Erde” (Space activities and law. Fascination space, regulation between the heavens and the Earth). The book has been edited by Christian Brünner together with Alexander Soucek and Edith Walter and has been published at Böhlau Verlag, Vienna/Cologne/Graz.
In their introductory remarks Kai-Uwe Schrogl (Secretary General of ESPI), Andrea Kleinsasser (representative of the Austrian Ministry for Transport Innovation and Technology, BMVIT) and Harald Posch (Head of the Aeronautics and Space Agency) highlighted the achievements of the Austrian space law community. Presenting the book to the audience composed of personalities from administration and industry as well as numerous journalists, Christian Brünner described the main features of this work and illustrated the inputs by the 17 contributors. With this volume, a very thorough and also useful compendium of space law has been prepared for a broad range of readers.
