24 April 2009. Hosted last year by ESPI, the Regional Day of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) took place today at ESOC, again with the active involvement of ESPI.
Following last year's IAA Regional Day at ESPI (see related webnews here), this year, ESA's European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darnstadt was the meeting place of the regional group of the Academy. ESPI's Director was invited to speak about recent research of ESPI in the field of security related issues focussing on the EU Draft Code of Conduct and Space Traffic Management as well as on the results of the recent IAA/ESPI/SWF Workshop on "The Fair and Responsible Use of Space". (presentation here). At this occasion, the Chairman of the Executive Board of DLR, Jan Wörner, received a copy of the most recent book publication of ESPI, the volume on "Threats, Risks and Sustainability - Answers by Space", which he accepted with great interest.
