27 February 2013. Today we had terrible news. André Lebeau has died.
André Lebeau was a space and science expert of the highest order, a true humanist and internationalist. And then he was so much more. An academic, the first deputy director general of ESA, director general of Météo France for many years, president of CNES, author of many learned books, a man of culture and erudition.
In many ways an archetypical French intellectual, André Lebeau transcended this role with his international societal engagement and a curious mind that did not allow itself to be put in shackles or stereotyped.
André Lebeau was at the cradle when ESPI was born and has remained at our side since then as a trusted friend and a source of the very best counsel. André will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with his loved ones!
