Tasked by the Presidency of this year’s EISC, the UK Parliamentary Space Committee (PSC), ESPI has been acting throughout the year as support for the Presidency and coordinated the organisation and the conduct of the annual conference, which took place from 25-27 October 2009 in London. This year’s plenary meeting was concentrating on space as a problem solver, investigating into the multitude of benefits, space applications bring to society. More than 100 participants assessed in particular the role Members of Parliaments can play in translating the potential of space applications into concrete and tangible results for policies.

The Resolution, adopted at the end of the meeting is stressing space as a problem solver, as a tool for economic growth and development and as an instrument to deal with climate change. It also identifies issues like shaping a regulatory framework for a competitive European space sector, public awareness of the value of space applications and public private financing of space activities as targets for further discussion and need for action.

Her activities, which included in particular the thematic support to the Secretary of PSC, Tom Gunner, the organisation of the annual conference preparations and the set-up of the EISC website, was highly commended by the Chairman of EISC Ian Taylor, MP. Through her seamless management, ESPI was established as the partner also of the next Presidency of EISC, which will be held from 2010 by the Space Committee of the Romanian Parliament.
