3 December 2009. For the first time, ESPI was invited to attend, as an observer, the European Security and Defence Assembly, Assembly of Western European Union where members of national parliaments discuss issues relevant to security and defence.
The standing cooperation with the secretariat of the Technological and Aerospace Committee, headed by José M. Pedregosa, lead to the first invitation of ESPI to attend a European Security and Defence Assembly, Assembly of Western European Union (WEU), the 57th taking place from 1 to 3 December 2009 in Paris. This attendance by ESPI’s Director Kai-Uwe Schrogl and ESPI Project Manager Nina-Louisa Remuß (who is also responsible for ESPI’s support to the European Interparliamentary Space Conference EISC, related webnews see here) was used for informal conversations with members of national parliaments in order to present ESPI’s security related work and activities. Future cooperation with the Committee Secretariat was agreed upon, i.a. regarding the issue of space for maritime security, which has been the topic of the recent AIES/ESPI conference (related webnews see here).
