3 June 2008. During the 63rd meeting of ESA’s International Relations Committee, ESPI was given the opportunity to present its activities and promote the use of its research results.
Being invited to address ESA’s International Relations Committee at its meeting in Oostende, Belgium, provided ESPI with the opportunity to present research results relevant to international relations and to receive the interest in its activities by the operative experts in Foreign Ministries and agencies around Europe.
ESPI’s Director Kai-Uwe Schrogl, who had chaired this committee from 2003 to 2005, reported about studies (like on China and the new EU member countries EU4+), topics of cross-sectoral relevance (like the Sustainability Conference) as well as position papers (like the Memorandum on transatlantic space cooperation) and offered to conduct future activities of interest to IRC and its delegations.
Welcoming this approach, the IRC Chairman François Mayence (Belgium) and the new ESA Director for Legal Affairs and External Relations Peter Hulsroj, appreciated the work done by ESPI’s staff. They underlined the usefulness of having a European think tank providing independent advice to European decision-makers in the field of international space relations.
