At a visit today, Pierre-Alain Schieb, responsible for space issues at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) expressed his interest in ESPI’s recent work in the field of analysing the space economy and investigating into the effects of regulations in the space sector.
Pierre-Alain Schieb, who is the Head of the Advisory Unit to the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and leader of the “International Futures Programme”, visited ESPI today and discussed recent activities of the Institute with relevance for the work of OECD. Particular attention was given to the research and analysis, ESPI is conducting with regard to economic aspects of space activities.
Presented were the respective parts of the “Yearbook on Space Policy” and the most recent issue of “Space Policies, Issues and Trends 2008/2009” (related webnews here) prepared by ESPI Research Fellow Wolfgang Rathgeber with the support of ESPI Research Intern Christophe Venet. Furthermore OECD showed interest in the currently finalised study on “Economic and Political Aspects of Space Regulations in Europe. Part 1: The Case of National Space Legislation – Finding the Way Between Common and Coordinated Action”, which is lead by ESPI Project Manager Matxalen Sánchez Aranzamendi. Pierre-Alain Schieb and ESPI’s Director Kai-Uwe Schrogl agreed on an extended exchange of information and a continuation of participation in relevant events and study activities.
