31 August 2011. Today, Kai-Uwe Schrogl departs ESPI after four years as its Director. As the Chairman of ESPI’s General Assembly points out, during this period, the Institute has emerged as the leading think tank on space policy in Europe and an influential platform globally.
Harald Posch, Chairman of ESPI’s General Assembly observed, “Kai-Uwe Schrogl has, over the past four years, made ESPI the top think tank in space policy. He successfully configured the Institute to be a respected source of information, strategies, concepts and visions and an influential platform for the development of European space policy. He has also served as a particularly able leader in developing and motivating talented Resident Fellows and researchers. This is reflected by the world-class quality and quantity of work produced by the Institute on a broad spectrum of space policy and technical topics. Kai-Uwe Schrogl himself is widely acknowledged as an exemplary driver and advocate of the European space effort and a respected European diplomat internationally.”
Herbert Allgeier, Chairman of ESPI’s Advisory Council added: “It was a real pleasure working with Kai-Uwe Schrogl over the past four years. His interaction with the Advisory Council was extremely competent and well received by all its members, who became deeply and effectively engaged in the Institute’s activities. He leaves the Institute a highly visible and credible organization with a global reputation for excellence. As I was able to witness first-hand, the staff was proud of working under his directorship. ESPI’s partners in European and other national agencies and institutions have welcomed the sharp rise in the Institute’s stature under his leadership.” On behalf of the ESPI’s staff, Communications Manager Blandina Baranes commented: “Kai-Uwe’s exceptional leadership skills have consistently given us clear direction, strong motivation, and helpful guidance in the performance of our duties at the Institute. This has permitted the staff to contribute strongly and directly to the impressive development of ESPI. Just as importantly, Kai-Uwe's mentoring has fostered and advanced the development of the professional skills and careers of the many people who have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work with him at ESPI.”
