4 May 2010. Hosting the Conference on Governance of European Space Programmes in La Granja de San Ildefonso Segovia, the Spanish EU Council Presidency also invited ESPI to give a presentation during the session on the European Space Sector.
The Spanish EU Council Presidency Conference on Governance of European Space Programmes, which took place at Parador de la Granja, Segovia, on 3-4 May 2010, was an important event for discussing the state and future prospects for the governance of space activities in Europe (agenda download here). High-level participants including the Chairman of the ESA Council, the Director of the European Commission Directorate for Aerospace, GMES, Security and Defence, as well as Agency Heads, discussed issues relevant to the governance of space programmes on a European level.
ESPI had been invited to contribute to the panel on “The European Space Sector”, where Resident Fellow Matxalen Sánchez Aranzamendi presented an overview of the topics together with recent ESPI study results (presentation download here). The input comprised an overview of the political and regulatory questions as well as issues related to innovation. The conference as a whole was regarded as a successful attempt in raising and discussing the most relevant questions of governance in Europe.
