9 November 2011. The 4th Conference on EU Space Policy was held in Brussels. ESPI was invited to close the conference providing the wrap-up statements and subsequently prepare the written conclusions of the conference.

The 4th Conference on EU Space Policy, entitled “A European space policy for citizens and society” took place in Brussels on the 8 and 9 November. High level speakers representing a broad spectrum of space stakeholders participated, including the representatives from the European Parliament, Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, European Council Secretariat, European Commission, ESA, EUMETSAT, EUSC, EDA, GSA, EEA, space agencies, industry, associations, etc. ESPI for the first time was invited to be directly involved in the conference and provide the conclusion of the conference. ESPI's director Peter Hulsroj closed the conference providing the wrap-up remarks and resident fellow Christina Giannopapa will be preparing the written conclusions of the conference.

The conference was opened by statements from Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, and Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission. The conference highlighted space as one of the top priorities in the political agenda of European stakeholders, the importance of user orientation, and the need for a European approach in issues related to GMES and SSA. Vittorio Prodi, Chairman of the Sky and Space Intergroup, and his vice chairs Vladimir Remek and Jacqueline Foster underlined the essential nature of space as support for European policies. A statement was also provided by MP Mircea Cazan, vice chair of the European Interparliamentary Space Conference (EISC) expressing the common voice of the National Parliaments who had their annual meeting on the 16 to 18 October in Berlin under the leadership of the German Presidency.
