copy of acuns-logo.jpg 5 June 2010. The Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS) held its 23rd meeting on 3 -5 June 2010 in Vienna, Austria. ESPI contributed to the “New Security Challenges” theme by participating on a space security workshop panel.

The Annual Meeting provides ACUNS’ members and other professionals with a platform to discuss UN-related research and policy priorities. This year’s keynote speech on “New Security Challenges” was delivered by Danilo Türk, President of Slovenia. Jana Robinson, ESPI Resident Fellow, was invited to participate in a space security panel on the third day of the proceedings and delivered a presentation on “Transparency and Confidence-Building Measures For Space Security” (down here). Other panel participants included Amb. Peter Jankowitsch, former Chairman of UNCOPUOS, Amb. Walther Lichem, Irmgard Marboe of the University of Vienna, and Niklas Hedman of the UN Office in Vienna’s Office for Outer Space Affairs.
