IAP themepic 08 May 2013. In its role as the manager of the IAP Ambassador Platform for Central and Eastern Europe, ESPI together with the Vienna Business Agency organised an information event for Austrian stakeholders entitled “From Space to Business”.

The objective of the meeting was to inform Austrian industry and users about unique opportunities for business development, offered through ESA’s Integrated and Telecommunication Applications Programmes. The event was targeting industry, service providers and public-private end-users, interested in the development, provisioning and exploitation of services enhanced by telecommunication, navigation and Earth observation based space technologies.

The IAP programme is supporting the development of new applications by utilising and integrating different space assets, resulting in improved or new services for the citizens on a regional, European and global scale. The programme will not push any particular technology, but shall respond to users’ needs.

Harald Posch, Head of the Aeronautics and Space Agency of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), opened the event with an introduction and general overview of Austrian space activities. In the morning session of the event, the participants received presentations from ESA experts Amnon Ginati, Head of the Integrated and Telecommunications related Applications Department, and Pierluigi Mangini, Head of the Awareness and Feasibility Studies Division. They presented the lessons learned and challenges ahead in the IAP programme and how to engage with the ARTES Applications Programme, focusing on the opportunities for Austrian stakeholders.
