1 Dec 2017. ESPI recently contributed to the Open Universe initiative, organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the Italian Space Agency, with the support of the European Space Agency. The ESPI Director co-chaired session 2 “International cooperation, policy and legal aspects”, while ESPI Resident Fellow Dr. Stefano Ferretti co-chaired session 3 “Educational, social and economic benefits of open data”.

The Open Universe initiative aims at promoting transparency in astronomy and space science data sharing, resurfacing inaccessible data and broadening the user-base. All these aspects were addressed in the dedicated sessions, which were complemented by innovative and high impact citizen-science related activities, demonstrating powerful software capabilities and providing an exceptional evening show at the Vienna Planetarium. http://www.unoosa.org/oosa/en/ourwork/psa/schedule/2017/workshop_italy_openuniverse.html
