The European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) is currently organizing its 11th Autumn Conference on “Innovation in the New Space Economy” which will take place in ESPI on 12-13 September 2017. The Autumn Conference is a yearly ESPI event where policy and industry stakeholders in the space sector come together to discuss issues that affect Europe and the rest of the world.

12 May 2017. ESA and ESPI are jointly organising a Workshop entitled “Space Data & Cloud Computing Infrastructures: Policies and Regulations”, which will take place on 7 July 2017 at the premises of ESA/ESRIN in Frascati, Rome, Italy.

This one-day Workshop aims to address some key policy and regulatory questions – such as data rights and IPRs – raised by today’s continuous digitalization process, and in particular by the growing use of distributed computing for science data.

Speakers from the European Space Agency, the European Commission as well as major cloud computing providers and scientific cloud computing users will present and discuss policy, regulations and legal issues related to the exploitation of space science data in cloud computing infrastructures over four thematic sessions.

08 May 2017. On 5 May 2017, ESPI Resident Fellow was invited to deliver a lecture on the international dimension of China’s space activities at the University of Torino. The lecture was part of the Spring Seminars that the university holds every year in the context of its Master’s degree in International Studies.

02 May 2017. Dr. Annette Froehlich, Senior researcher seconded by DLR (German Aerospace Center) to ESPI, lectured in current space law and policy challenges at the “Master in Space Policy and Institutions” in Rome for SIOI, the Italian Society for International Organizations.

02 May 2017. Save the date !!! ESPI and ESA are co-organizing the conference “Space and SATCOM for 5G - European Transport and Connected Mobility” which will take place in Brussels on 27-28 June 2017. The Conference aims at promoting cooperative frameworks that encourage the interworking of satellite and terrestrial technologies in support to the transport sector at large, by bringing together the respective business and institutional communities. Special emphasis will be put on the roles and approaches of the diverse groups of stakeholders involved in the development of satellite based 5G networks and of future transportation vehicles.
