13 October 2017. The concept of spacetug and satellite in-orbit servicing is not new and operators and governments have long waxed on the idea of cheaply extending the operational lifetime of their satellites. Yet, some recent announcements from satellite operators and manufacturing industry suggest a renewed interest in the concept, in particular for GEO satcom lifetime extension purposes. 06 October 2017. During the 2017 International Astronautical Congress, held in Adelaide from 25 to 29 September 2017, Dr. Serge Plattard, chair the IAF Committee on Space Security, and former ESPI Resident Fellow Alessandra Vernile participated in various technical sessions where the outcomes of ESPI studies were presented. This year ESPI significantly contributed to IAC with a number of papers in various areas:
25 September 2017. On the 25th of September, ESPI Director participated in Brussels in a High Level Conference on "The Future of EU Finances” organised by DG BUDG.
He was more specifically invited to highlight the achievements of Europe in Space, the challenges ahead for the European Space sector and the perspectives to be considered for the preparation of the next Multi-annual Financial Framework.

21 September 2017. On 12 and 13 September 2017, the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) conducted its 11th Autumn Conference addressing the topic of “Innovation in the New Space Economy”. The Autumn Conference is a yearly ESPI event where space policy, agency and industry stakeholders come together to discuss issues that affect Europe and the rest of the world.

10 July 2017. On the 7th of July, ESA and ESPI jointly organised in ESRIN a one-day Workshop around the topic of policies and regulations for Space Data in cloud computing infrastructures. The Workshop gathered more than 70 participants, from European Institutions and Organisations, to the European Space Agency and other space agencies, major aerospace companies, cloud services providers as well as start-ups working with space data, space science researchers and legal experts on data policies.
