Key Takeaways from European Cooperation in Space Sustainability Workshop

On 28 March 2025, ESPI held the “European Cooperation in Space Sustainability” workshop, facilitating a discussion on space safety and sustainability priorities among European actors.

At a time when stakeholder attention is shifting towards security and defence, the event focused on advancing space safety and sustainability topics in synergy with other priorities to ensure long-term unimpeded access to space for actors in Europe and around the world.

The 30 attendees, hailing from national governments, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Space Agency and industry, discussed the subject across three working sessions, focusing on identifying key space safety and sustainability subjects, elucidating arguments to advance European space safety ambitions, and proposing next steps for the community.

Key takeaways from this event are available here.

The workshop was organised within the framework of the inauguration of ESPI’s new Centre for Sustainability and Resilience, a community-facing initiative focused on how space can aid sustainability efforts on Earth and how we can ensure sustainable exploration of space itself. ESPI will continue the conversations started during this workshop, and we invite ESPI members and the broader community to propose ideas and topics to further shape the debate in the Centre’s framework.

ESPI would like to extend our gratitude to all of the participants for a productive discussion.
