Signing of an MoU with the Space Court Foundation

On 24 January 2025, the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) and The Space Court Foundation (SCF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in space law and policy research and education activities.

About The Space Court Foundation

The Space Court Foundation (SCF) is a multinational non‑profit organization that promotes space law education and the rule of law. Based in the United States and the Netherlands, the SCF conducts primary space law research and manages a global virtual internship program of 20–30 students yearly. Its research programme spans its Space Law Research Guide, the Big Books of National Space Law Series, its Space Law Lexicon, and the Haley Project, a study of the first practicing space lawyer, Andrew G. Haley (1904–1966). The SCF is also the host organization for the North American Round of IISL’s Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. For more information, please check out their website and follow them on YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Joint Initiatives

This partnership outlines a series of joint initiatives aimed at promoting the importance of space law and policy. Both organisations will collaborate on the development of educational materials and research projects that support the creation of robust legal structures for space activities.

ESPI would like to thank the SCF’s co-founders, Christopher Hearsey, Chairman and Treasurer; and Nathan Johnson, Vice‑Chair and Secretary, for their innovative space law research approaches. SCF is honoured to work with ESPI and contribute to these joint initiatives.

I am confident this collaboration will pave the way for a deeper understanding of global regulatory dynamics and their critical impact on space policymaking and the advancement of global space activities.

Marco Aliberti Associate Manager & Lead on International Engagement, ESPI

We are excited to be part of this collaborative effort and believe that our shared emphasis on innovative research and education perfectly complements ESPI’s mission. This partnership will enable greater insights into the growing space ecosystem and analysis of trends in space activities, policy, and law. Under the leadership of Executive Director Yana Yakushina and President Jonathan Kaley-Isley, our research team will drive the execution of our collaborative research, develop new initiatives and insights, and provide a mutually beneficial research relationship to track the evolution of global space law and policy frameworks.
