Working with our Advisory Council

ESPI Advisory Council meeting in November 2024

As ESPI continues to grow and advance its agenda, promoting European space policy globally and advising European decision-makers and institutions, there is a recognition that this would not be possible without the steadfast support of our Advisory Council.

In the recent period, we have notably increased engagement and collaboration with members of our Advisory Council, a diverse group of high-level personalities and thematic experts, for a number of different initiatives, such as ESPI Autumn Conference, international events, research projects, or policy impact efforts. Please see below a selection of photos capturing these collaborations:

As of May 2025, the ESPI Advisory Council is composed of:

  • Etienne Schneider, Chair, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg
  • Marek Banaszkiewicz, Former President of the Polish Space Agency
  • Samantha Cristoforetti, ESA Astronaut, member of the European Astronaut Corps
  • Maj. Gen. Michel Friedling (Ret.), Former French Space Commander
  • Peggy Hollinger, Space Industry Editor at the Financial Times
  • Fritz Merkle, Former Chief Technical Officer at OHB
  • Margit Mischkulnig, Head of Dept. for Space Affairs at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure
  • Niklas Nienaß, Former Member of the European Parliament
  • Sinéad O’Sullivan, Economist at Harvard Business School’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness
  • Walther Pelzer, Director General of the German Space Agency at DLR
  • Magali Vaissière, Member of the Ministerial Space Steering Committee of France 2030
  • Lord David Willetts, Chair of UK Space Agency and President of Resolution Foundation
