Rapid changes in the space sector require binding legal rules and norms for stability, especially regarding technological developments. This report by ESPI provides an analysis of existing legal mechanisms for creating space law for the international community, in which international law is categorised under treaties, customary laws, general principles, and soft or non-binding laws. This report looks at the history of space law, the possibilities of new ratifications, and examines current United Nations bodies and ratifications as well as other groups. As space actors develop abilities beyond established rules, negotiations have become difficult, necessitating that appropriate frameworks ought to be created.
